Johannes Hennekeuser - Adventures - Mountaineering
Mountaineering is advanced hiking using
ropes and cramp-ons to get up to higher altitudes. I have taken some
trips into the heart of the Swiss Alps and feature some pics taken
back then below.
The famous Konkordiaplatz with the Aletsch
glacier, the biggest of the Alps flowing from right to left. Just
right of the middle, far in the back you can see the Jungfrau mountain. The photo was taken
from
Konkordiahütte (SAC). You have to walk over glaciers to get
there - if you come from the South it's not that difficult though
and worth a trip.
This
is in the Glarner Alps on top of the Glaernisch glacier. In
the back is Vrenelisgaertli, a popular mountaineering destination. The photo was
taken by my wife Andrea in July 2004.
On the way to the Moenchjochshütte
- the only Swiss mountain hut above 3000 m that tourist can reach as
well: Take the train up to the Jungfraujoch and walk over the well
prepared path (1 hour) - but make sure you bring boots.
In front of Finsteraarhorn in
Juli 2003. The next day of this 5-day journey that also included
Jungfrau and Moench was cloudy with snow storms. We were therefore
not able to attempt the top. The guy next to me was Bernhard "The
Fly", one of the guides.
In 2002 I climbed my first peaks above 4000 m/12000
ft. Andreas, one of the other tour members, designed
a nice trip summary
with lots of good shots (available in German
only).
