1999 - today
Working in Switzerland
Consulting, Management and
Executive Board
In 1999 I took up an offer by IBM to move to
consulting and relocated to Switzerland. The
IBM Consulting Group was ramping up its
offering in Zurich and was interested in my HR
and IT skills. I became a business
transformation consultant and worked on
various engagements that focused on enabling
business processes using modern technology.
I was longing for an actual management role
with personnel responsibility and therefore
took up an offer by Sun Microsystems to
become district manager for professional
services in Zurich. This was a business and
operations manager role that also included
turning around a loss-making and risky
business to a predictable and profitable
professional services business.
At Credit Suisse, where I started in 2003, I went
through an 11-year career that included
multiple managerial roles of increasing
complexity and size. I started of as a Chief of
Staff, went on to security, and then grew in
various production support roles to finally
being responsible for application support
globally for Private Banking heading an
organization of 250.
In 2015 I decided to join the executive board of
AdNovum, a mid-sized software development
company. I started off by building-up a service
and support organization while at the same
time providing operations services for the
leading Swiss mobile payment solution that lets
users pay using their mobile phones.
1996 - 1999
Working in the US
SAP, HR and Web
Hired right from campus I continued to stay in
the US and spent my early working years at
Motorola in Phoenix, Arizona. I joined the
ongoing SAP integration in HR and took this
from the US to Europe. This gave me the
opportunity to apply my IT skills and learn
about HR processes as well as experience
international culture first hand.
After completion of the SAP integration, I
continued to work on HR processes
optimization and applying technology to enable
and streamline HR. This also included some
early web development to enable employee
self-service using a workflow enabled portal.
1989 - 1996
Studying in the US, Asia and Europe
Computer Science in Medicine
and Business Administration
Studying computer science and combining it
with medicine seemed a natural decision to
me. I was fascinated by the new technology and
how to control it, and I liked the idea of
applying this to healing humans. The
University of Heidelberg offered this brand-
new field in cooperation with the School of
Applied Science in Heilbronn. I received my
MSC in Computer Science in Medicine in 1994.
After my graduation, I decided to fulfil one of
my early dreams and went on to continue my
studies in the US to get an MBA. I attended a 2-
year full-time program at the Marshall School
of Business at USC. When the university
selected students for a semester abroad I
applied and was selected to move to Asia for
one semester where I took classes at the Hong
Kong University of Science and Technology. I
graduated with an MBA degree in 1996.
