Besides Switzerland,
where I currently reside, Arizona is my favorite place to live. For
someone as outdoorsy as I am there's almost nothing left that you
can not do in Arizona. The folks in Phoenix, one of the hottest
places in the US, even will tell you that they have got lots of beaches -
just no ocean with water. And, indeed, there's plenty of sand in the
deserts in the state. But, and that's surprising to many who have
not been there, Arizona also has mountains with thick forests as
high as 12'000 ft (4'000m).
Here are some links
that I recommend to get a better picture:

And the gear
for all of that:
- Mountain Hardware
Best stuff to wear.
- Gregory
Best (American) stuff to put your stuff in.
- Deuter
Better (European) stuff to put your stuff in.
- REI Hiking store
Most complete store (online and offline) and one of the
cheapest ways to get the above.
- The Summit Hut
The easiest way to shop in AZ (or elsewhere).
Located in Tucson, AZ, this on-line and catalog store's got it all!
- Baechli Bergsport
The best place in Switzerland for moutaineering equipment.
They also got stores in Zurich and other big Swiss cities.
